Little Steps by Tuneful Journey is an extended small-group enrichment program for 3- and 4-year-olds, using music and movement to grow confident, capable, and connected learners.

Where Curiosity Meets Confidence

In Little Steps, children are encouraged to explore ideas, experiment, and express themselves in a safe, guided environment. By trying things on their own and sharing their ideas, children begin to trust themselves and their abilities.

Through this balance of freedom and gentle structure, they build confidence, independence, and a love of learning—taking confident steps toward preschool readiness.

Foundational Skills Through Play

Using the Kindermusik® curriculum as the heart of Little Steps, music and movement fuel every activity, making each experience joyful and engaging. Children strengthen early literacy, fine motor, and creative thinking skills through playful, intentional experiences—where growth feels fun, natural, and never forced.

Small Groups, Big Connections

In a small, intentionally limited group of just 10 children, every child is truly known. Individualized attention helps children grow socially, emotionally, and physically as they practice taking turns, solving problems, and stretching their abilities in a joyful, supportive environment.

Family Moments That Last

Parents or caregivers join the final 10 minutes of each session to celebrate accomplishments and share in their child’s discoveries. This builds special moments of pride, connection, and confidence for both children and their grownups. While this time is not required, it’s a meaningful addition if it works for your family.

Is Little Steps a preschool?

Little Steps is a music-and-movement–based enrichment program designed to support preschool readiness through play, creativity, and small-group learning. It operates as a license-exempt enrichment program under Iowa guidelines due to its limited hours and specialized structure. Children gain meaningful, hands-on practice with the skills that help them feel confident and prepared for preschool—especially those who missed the preschool cutoff and would benefit from extra readiness time.

Where will Little Steps be held?

Little Steps will be offered at a new Tuneful Journey location in Nevada, IA, with a dedicated space designed for music, movement, and small-group learning. We’re currently finalizing our location and will share the exact address before enrollment opens so families have all the details before committing.

How is Little Steps different from weekly Kindermusik classes?

Little Steps offers extended, small-group time—2.5 hours per session, three days a week—giving children the opportunity to practice social skills, independence, and early learning concepts more deeply. Weekly Level 3 and 4 Kindermusik classes remain available and valuable, offering ongoing music-and-movement enrichment that complements preschool or other early learning experiences. Families may choose one or both options based on what best supports their child.
